An (interim) Pine Center Home

Today is a good day at Angels’ Place.  We hope you will celebrate with us.

Over the last year, the good people at Blessed Assurance Home Inspections have (at no charge) examined each of the homes Angels’ Place owns – the kind of physical inspection you might contract when you buy a home.  With this information, we have prioritized our maintenance workload and investment.

One home needed several major repairs – Pine Center.

As we engaged various vendors to estimate the work, it also became apparent that even with a significant investment, the setup of the home would not be ideal to accommodate aging-in-place.  The home has narrow hallways, small bathrooms and bedrooms, etc.

This property was donated to Angels’ Place by the Miller Family twenty-eight years ago.  It has served us well.  The neighbors have been kind and helpful.  The ladies love the location and its short walk to the beach on Pine Lake.

And so, armed with this information, the board chose to build a new home on the property.

The next hurdle was – where do the ladies live while that home is under construction?

After touring many homes, we found one that could safely and comfortably accommodate Sue, Mary Beth, Betsy, Michelle, and Joanna.  It is in Troy.  Five bedrooms, three and a half baths.  All on one level with only one step – even when entering and exiting the home.  It backs up to St. Thomas More Church and is less than two miles from our Haddington and Mahon Homes.  Yesterday a deer was resting in the trees adjacent to the backyard.

The house was beautiful at first sight.  And now, after being swarmed by volunteers, the ladies are moving in today.  Sister JoAnn reports that they are like excited puppies – you can almost imagine their wagging tails.

In the coming months we are likely to launch a fundraising campaign – so we can improve the aging-in-place capabilities of all twenty-one Angels’ Place Homes.  But for today, we hope you will join in the joy of five ladies starting a new (interim) chapter at their home at 2818 Hylane.

Your generosity makes this joy possible.  Thank you.
